Black Hawks win in Shoot-out

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Scott Pavelski opened the scoring Saturday, then capped a shootout in a 3-2 Waterloo Black Hawks victory against the Sioux Falls Stampede at Young Arena.

Pavelski was the trailer on a three-on-two shorthanded rush in the opening period. Keegan Meuer dropped him the puck, and Pavelski fired it in, high to the glove side of goalie Clay Witt at 13:47.

The Stampede struck for two goals in less than 60 seconds, starting at 9:47 of the second period, when George Michalke flipped in a rebound. Dane Walters long shot trickled in at 10:38.

The game was retied with 1.3 seconds remaining in the period; Lee Moffie put a puck through traffic and into the net in the nick of time to knot the scorebefore intermission during a power play.

Neither club scored for the next 25 minutes. In the shootout that followed, the teams traded goals over the course of the first five rounds. Ben Miller and JT Brown converted chances for Waterloo, while David Eddy and Josh Holmstrom were on the mark for Sioux Falls. Pavelski came to the ice after the sixth Stampede shot missed the net; he didn t miss, finding the same spot for earlier, over Witt s shoulder.

Waterloo will host a pair of games next weekend. The Des Moines Buccaneers visit Friday before a Valentine�s Day tilt with the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders.
