2009 Dance Marathon raises more than $1 million

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The 15th annual University of Iowa Dance Marathon wrapped up at 7:00 p.m. Saturday in Iowa City.  Students danced for 24 hours straight to raise money for children with cancer.  The total amount raised this year is $1,030,428.15.

The marathon started at 7:00 p.m. Friday.  A record breaking 1,900 students danced this year. The event included live music, games and other special events.

The Dance Marathon raises money for support and programs for children with cancer and their families treated at University of Iowa Children's Hospital.  The money raised in 2009 brings the total amount raised by the group since it started over $7.5 million.
