Warning as Iowa fire deaths rise

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A warning from state officials as fire deaths in Iowa continue to climb at a record pace.

The latest death came this week when a 25 year-old man died in a fire in downtown Boone. That brings the number of people killed in Iowa fires to 13 this year. That;s compared to 7 fire deaths at this time last year.

The State Fire Marshall's office urges all Iowans to practice fire safety checking smoke detectors, getting fire extinguishers and having escape plans.
