Hy-vee fined for labor law violations in Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. (KWWL) - An Iowa-based grocer has paid nearly $33,000 in penalties for violating child labor laws at some Nebraska stores.

The U.S. Labor Department says it found a total of 43 violations during recent investigations at four Hy-Vee stores.

The company is based in West Des Moines, Iowa. Calls to a spokeswoman were not immediately returned Thursday.

Labor Department district director Percella Maupins says the company had been working with the department to educate managers and train store employees, including minors, on the child labor laws.

The department says laws on work hours were violated, as well as those barring minors from hazardous tasks.

The violations were found at two stores in Omaha and stores in Norfolk and Papillion.
