University of Iowa's flood damage now at $230 million

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- The University of Iowa says it will need a flood state money for the school to recover from $230 million in damages from last spring's flooding.

University of Iowa President Sally Mason told a legislative budget committee Thursday the university will need the state's help to repair damage to 24 buildings.

In general, federal disaster programs will cover about 90% of repairs, leaving the state with roughly a $23 million tab.

Mason says university officials are still analyzing repair plans and will likely make a recommendation to the state Board of Regents in the next month or two.
