COUNCIL BLUFFS (AP)--Council Bluffs police say a City Council member is among six men arrested in a prostitution sting.
Police Chief Ralph O'Donnell says Councilman Darren Bates, elected to the council in 2005, was arrested Tuesday.
According to a news release, Bates and the others were arrested in a prostitution sting at a local hotel. They are charged with solicitation of prostitution, an aggravated misdemeanor.
City Attorney Dick Wade says an aggravated misdemeanor doesn't disqualify someone from holding office. He declined further comment, referring questions to the Pottawattamie County attorney's office, which he says has jurisdiction.
Telephone messages left with the county attorney and Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan were not immediately returned.
