Cedar Rapids Public Library moving to bigger area

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The Cedar Rapids Public Library is moving to bigger and better digs, inside the Westdale Mall.

The move to their new bridge facility near JC Penney involved the help of over 300 volunteers.
Using the mall's service tunnels and a freight elevator, crews will be moving about 60,000 adult and children's books.

"The bridge facility will not only allow us to combine those, but will also give us additional space to add more materials and have programs there, and it'll just be a much nicer place for our community members to come," said interim library director Tamara Glise.

Much of the library's book collection was moved Sunday.  Monday, they'll work on heavier items like shelves and bookcases.
