Cedar Rapids Public Library on the move

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The Cedar Rapids Public Library is moving to bigger and better digs inside the Westdale Mall.

The move to their new "bridge facility" near JC Penney involved the help of over 300 volunteers on Sunday. Using the mall's service tunnels and a freight elevator crews moved about 60,000 adult and children's books. We spoke to the library's interim director, Tamara Glise, about the process.

"The bridge facility will not only allow us to combine those [books], but will also give us additional space to add more materials and have programs there, and it'll just be a much nicer place for our community members to come," she said.

Much of the library's book collection was moved Sunday.

Volunteers were set to move heavier items like shelves and bookcases on Monday.
