Souper Bowl Charity

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- 140 million Americans tune in to the Super Bowl, but some have turned the day into more than just watching a football came.

In 1990, a group of youth in Columbia, South Carolina started the "Souper Bowl of Caring" to fundraise for the hungry.  Each group participating donates their money directly to the charity of their choice.

Northeast Iowa Food Bank has joined the nationwide organization in raising money for this event.

Sunday's Hudson's St. Timothy Lutheran Church divided their donations between the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and the ELCA Hunger Appeal.

The nationwide goal for this year's the Souper Bowl of Caring is 5 hundred thousand dollars.
