Neighborhood Planning Workshop in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The long process of rebuilding flood-damaged neighborhoods in Cedar Rapids continues to go one step at a time.  Saturday, hundreds of people shared their ideas to bring back their neighborhoods.

The city held its first neighborhood planning workshop at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Saturday.  People could share their views on the elements of building a great neighborhood.
The process is designed so residents can guide the decision-making in the re-birth of their city.

"the whole city has a shared interest in this. The downtown is everybody's downtown and when we talk about open space, and recreation, and schools, and housing that relates to everybody," said Jason Hellendrung with Sasaki Associates.

Residents will be called together again February 10th.  That's when they'll be asked to break down different flood-affected areas based on their strengths.
