Mayor responds to firefighter drug charges

Waterloo (KWWL) - A longtime Waterloo firefighter is accused of making meth.

Lieutenant Jeff Cutsforth has been with the Waterloo Fire Department for some 25 years, now he is charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Sources say the Tri-County Drug Task Force raided his home earlier this week. Police say agents confiscated meth and materials to make the drug.

Cutsforth has been placed on unpaid, administrative leave, during the investigation. Waterloo Mayor Tim Hurley says the city is working together.

"As it would be in any family or any organization that gets caught up in this, as alleged. It's sad. It's very unfortunate, but it happened and we're dealing with it," Hurley said.

Cutsforth, who faces up to 25 years in prison, has been released from jail on bond.
