Three crashes send 6 to hospital

JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -- A series of three crashes in Johnson County sent a total of 6 people to the hospital Thursday night.

The first was a two car crash that sent three people to the hospital near Lake McBride in Johnson County.

The Iowa State Patrol says 32 year-old Virginia Soukup of Solon lost control of her car and crashed into an on-coming mini-van at the intersection of 180th Street NE and Mehaffey Bridger Road NE. 47 year-old Janice Stout and her 18 year-old son, Evan, also of Solon, were in the van. All three were taken to the hospital -- no word on their conditions.

About an hour later, the Iowa State Patrol says a pick-up truck lost control and slammed into an oncoming car at the intersection of Dubuque Street and 275th Street NE. The driver of the car, 35 year-old Heather Brockway of North Liberty, was taken to the hospital. There's no word on her condition. Police charged the driver of the pick-up, 18 year-old Matthew Skallerud of Iowa City, with failure to yield half the road.

40 minutes later, a third crash sent two more people to the hospital. Police say a Chevy Corvette rolled off the on-ramp between Interstat 380 South and Interstate 80 West. The driver, 43 year-old Stacey Pierson, and a passenger, 39 year-old Sam Hershberger, both of Cedar Rapids, were taken to the hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
