While the cure rate for leukemia is high, not all patients respond equally to the drugs used to treat the disease. Researchers at St. Jude Children's Hospital conducted genetic studies using nearly 500 patients. They were able to identify over 100 genes that influenced how many cancer cells were left after treatment. 21 genes were linked to relapse, another 21 genes were associated with a greater response to chemotherapy.
