Two Franklin County crashes injure 5 people

FRANKLIN COUNTY (KWWL) -- Five people are recovering after two separate car crashes in Franklin County.

A Dumont woman is hurt after rolling her car Tuesday on Highway 3 and Timber Avenue between Hampton and Dumont.  The Iowa State Patrol says Rhoda Mae Clemens, 65, lost control of her car after looking down to close an ash tray. 

A state patrol news release says Clemens veered off the road and rolled the vehicle several times ans stopped on its side. Clemens was trapped for a short time, rescue crews got her out of the vehicle after rolling the vehicle back onto its wheels.  Paramedics took Clemens to Franklin General Hospital.  Right now, the hospital isn't releasing her condition. 

Four other Iowans are recovering from a two vehicle crash last week just souteast of Dows.  The state patrol says it happened January 22nd at the intersection of County Road S-13 and Apricot Avenue.

A state patrol news release says Eldon Joe Walbaum, 66, from Dows was parked on the side of the road delivering mail when anopther vehicle hit him.  Police say the driver of the other vehicle Fernando Alonzo, 30, from Alden was distracted by one of his passengers and he hit the bumper of Walbaum's vehicle.  Both vehicle's wound up on their sides.

Parademics used life flight to rush Alonzo's daughter Yolonda, 11, to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City. Alonzo's other daughter Heather, 6 was taken to Ellsworth Hospital. Alonzo himself was hurt, but resufe any treatment.  Walbaum was taken to Ellsworth Hospital.  Right now, the hospitals aren't releasing the conditions of those hurt in the crash.
