Former IA Rep. Nagle sentenced for drunk driving

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- Former congressman Dave Nagle will spend two weeks in a halfway house after pleading guilty to drunken driving.

Nagle was sentenced to two years in prison, which was suspended to 14 days in the Waterloo Resident Facility. The 65-year-old, a Cedar Falls attorney, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1986 to 1992.

Nagle will also have to pay a $1,875 fine, attend a drunken driving school and complete one to two years of probation. Nagle pleaded guilty on Monday to charges stemming from April traffic stop.

The incident was Nagle<s third conviction for drunken driving. It was charged under Iowa law as a second offense because the first incident happened more than 12 years ago. The first case was in 1985, and the second was in 1997.
