ANKENY (KWWL) - The Iowa state medical examiner's office said that it was hypothermia that caused 43-year-old Gregory Ratchford's death last week.

The medical examiner's office said that the hypothermia was due to environmental cold exposure. The manner of death was determined to be accidental.

Ratchford's body was found last Wednesday in a creek not far from his Independence home.

Ratchford was last seen two days earlier walking home from a local bar.

"He was going to go home to his girls, and between here and home, he never made it home," Ratchford's sister, Deb Roberts said.
