As the Panthers' starting quarterback in 1993, Warner led UNI to an 8-4 overall record and a berth into the NCAA I-AA playoffs. Warner's squad posted a 5-1 Gateway Football Conference mark to win the league title and an automatic bid into the playoffs. Warner passed for 2,747 yards and 17 touchdowns, while rushing for four scores as well in 1993. Warner earned NFL MVP honors in 1999 and 2001. Warner led the St. Louis Rams to a world championship in Super Bowl XXXIV, while being named the game's MVP. Warner also led the Rams to Super Bowl XXXVI.
Warner is one of four former Panthers that will be involved in the Cardinals' Super Bowl effort. Dru Grigson, who is in his first season as a scout for the Cardinals, transferred to UNI as a linebacker/defensive end in 2000 and earned his bachelor's degree (General Studies) from UNI in 2002. Offensive lineman Brandon Keith, who was a seventh round draft pick in 2008 by the Cardinals, played two seasons for the Panthers and earned All-America honors in 2007 while helping lead UNI to a perfect 11-0 regular season. Offensive quality control coach Dedric Ward is in his second season on the Cardinals' coaching staff. Ward finished his UNI career (1993-1996) as the school's all-time leader in receiving yards (4,539) and touchdowns (50).
