How to apply for a job at IBM

Dubuque (KWWL) -- Renovations have already started in the process of moving IBM into the Dubuque Building. It's expected to open in June or July, and by then IBM is expecting to already have about 300 hires.

By 2010 -- 1,300 employees should be bustling around IBM's new Technical Services Delivery Center; many of them from the eastern Iowa and tri-states region.

A company spokesperson writes: "IBM selected the city of Dubuque for our new delivery center based on several criteria including the strong positive public-private partnership within the city, competitive business model and the talent recruitment base that Iowa and the Midwest has to offer."

So, what are the jobs and how do you apply? IBM has posted dozens of Dubuque job openings online for technical support specialists, auditors and quality analysts. Most list two to four year degrees in IT, and one to three years of professional experience preferred.

"If you're in high school thinking about what you want to do with your career, Dubuque will be a magnet for it going forward, so maybe you want to possibly think about getting a degree in computers or it, get an associate's degree or diploma, just consider it as a career path where you might not have considered it before," Sarah Harris, with Greater Dubuque Development Corp, said.

Harris says IBM will target community colleges first for recruitment, but there will be opportunities for many levels of experience.

"It's exciting times to be here, and definitely exciting if you're a student going into the workforce for the first time, or if you're looking for a new career too, and wanting to change it up a little bit, it is definitely going to be a booming field here in Dubuque," Harris said.

IBM will be hiring in phases, so more job postings will go up periodically.
