WATERLOO (KWWL)-- If you don't have insurance, you can still afford preventative screenings.
Today was the first day in the last month one free health clinc has been open, due to a winter break. The Allen Community Engagement through the Salvation Army Partnership (ACE-SAP) clinc has had one hundred patients since the clinc opened its doors in October.
The clinc does preventative care at no charge... This includes physicals, cholestoral and sugar screenings.
Certified Nurse Practitioner and Allen College Assistant Professor Ruselle Debonis says, "If people don't have insurance or are under insured the last thing that they think about doing is getting those annual checkup to screen for the most common illnesses."
The clinc is located at the Waterloo Salvation Army at 218 Logan Avenue.
It is now open every Thursday from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and beginning February 18th alternating Wednesdays from 1 - 5 p.m. .
The clinc also serves the purpose of helping Allen College's nurse practitioner students fufill their community service requirements.
The clinc has been possible because of money from allen hospial, community foundation, and donations.
