Westdale sale appears dead

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A plan to buy Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids and house government offices there now appears to be dead.

The Linn County Supervisors rejected the offer from mall ownership to sell Westdale to the county for $18.5 million on Wednesday. The mall is serving as a home for some county and Cedar Rapids City offices displaced by June's flood.

The current Westdale owners sent supervisors a letter to buy the mall by March 30th or find a new home those offices. County supervisors said they simply could not meet that deadline.

Supervisor Brent Oleson was the lone dissenting vote, saying he thinks the county never gave serious consideration to the offer to buy Westdale Mall.
