Grundy bank warns customers of scams

GRUNDY (KWWL) -- A northeast Iowa bank is warning of two scams targeting its customers.

Grundy National Bank has posted a warning on its website that someone is using the bank's name, attempting to gather account information and personal identification numbers from our customers.

The bank says it will NEVER initiate an attempt to gather this type of information from its customers.  The bank warns these are ‘phishing' attempts by criminals attempting to utilize your account information to gain access to money.

Here is the warning from the Grundy National Bank's website:

* on Tuesday, January 20, an email was sent requesting recipients to go to a fake website, created to look like the actual GNB website, and input personal information, including name, account number, and personal identification numbers.

* on Wednesday, January 21, a text message was sent informing recipients their ‘ATM card has been suspended.' Instructions said to call a toll free number to reactivate the card.

THESE ARE FRAUDULENT ATTEMPTS TO GAIN ACCESS TO CUSTOMER ACCOUNTS. DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THESE MESSAGES, OR ANY OTHER SUSPICIOUS COMMUNICATION YOU RECEIVE CONCERNING YOUR GNB ACCOUNTS, PLEASE PHONE THE BANK AT 319-824-5431 OR 1-800-545-0172.

We at GNB apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Unfortunately, GNB was chosen as a target this week - next week it could be another financial institution.
