MLK Day takes on new meaning with Obama

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day takes on special meaning this year ahead of Barack Obama's Inauguration.

"Some of us never thought we'd see the day that we seein' today," said one parishoner at Waterloo's Union Missionary Baptist Church Monday night.

A few dozen people celebrated Martin Luther King's vision and dream during a unity service at the church Monday night. Rev. Marvin Jenkins, the pastor at Union Missionary Baptist, says the day takes on special meaning because of Obama's inauguration Tuesday.

"It does have a special significance because I believe that Martin Luther King, in what he was doing, paved the way to see this day come to pass," said Rev. Jenkins.

This is the second year the East Side Ministerial Alliance has held a unity service for Martin Luther Kking, Jr. Day.
