Rallying for the hungry

Waterloo (KWWL) - Eastern Iowans are heeding the call of President-Elect Obama, and rallying to feed the hungry.

Monday the Northeast Iowa Food Bank held an open house in downtown waterloo. Those interested were asked to "skip" lunch to understand the role food banks play.

The rally was planned in response to First Lady-Elect Michelle Obama's plea to support food banks.

"This was just our way to open up to the community and have people come in and learn more about the food bank and how many people we serve, what we do and what they can do to get involved," Barbara Prather, North East Iowa Food Bank said.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank provides food to nearly 200 hunger organizations.
