Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter holds open house

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Just after the June flood, Cedar Rapids Animal Control sheltered about 1000 animals.  Now, it's temporary shelter holds about 60 animals.

The organization re-opened for business in November.  It held an open house Saturday.  Animal Control held a tour for anyone who wanted to see the facility or those who were looking for a new family member.  Currently the shelter has 65 animals.  It can hold about 45 cats and 30 dogs.

"That's less than what we had at the old shelter, but we seem to be getting more people coming through for adoptions so its going pretty well in this facility," said Sgt. Kent Choate of the Cedar Rapids Police Department

The shelter is still a temporary solution.  Animal Control has a lease on the building for two years.
