Central High School awarded $7,100 from School Cents

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- After being delayed one week by weather - money is at last awarded in the Lindale Mall's School Cents Outreach Program..

This year, the program awarded $20,000 to schools needing help with program funding.  15 schools took part.

Points were accumulated when lindale mall customers turned in shopping receipts, voting for their preferred school.  Every dollar spent counting for one vote.

Central High School won the most, receiving $7,100.  Central High School teacher Courtney Bortle said that the school will be using the money to build a playground for the elementary school.

This was the 11th year the school cents program.  Over the last eleven years of the existing program, Lindale Mall has awarded over $275,000 to area schools. 

Springville High School won an additional $250 for represented their community in publicity efforts.
