Red Hot UNI Visits Drake

The University of Northern Iowa (11-6, 5-1 Missouri Valley Conference) travels to Des Moines to face intrastate rival Drake (13-5, 4-2 MVC) on Saturday. The game will tip-off at 11 am from the Knapp Center.

UNI improved to 5-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference with its 58-47 win at Evansville Jan. 13. That is the Panthers' best-ever start to MVC play, since joining the league in the 1991-92 season.

- The Panthers have won five straight games entering this Saturday's clash with Drake. The last time UNI won six straight games was in the

2006-07 season, Ben Jacobson's first year at the helm of the program.

- UNI has won its first three Missouri Valley Conference road games of the year, the first time in its 18-year membership in the league that it has claimed wins in its first three league road tilts. The last time UNI won more than three consecutive road games was in the 2005-06 season, when it won five straight away from home.

- The 58-47 win over Evansville earlier this week was UNI's eighth straight over the Purple Aces. That is the longest current winning streak by one team over another in the Missouri Valley Conference.

- Drake has won four straight games from UNI, with the Panthers' last win being a 51-49 win on Jan. 28, 2006 at the Knapp Center. Drake is the only Missouri Valley Conference team that third-year UNI head coach Ben Jacobson has not defeated.

- The Panthers defense has been outstanding lately. In fact, UNI has held five of its last six opponents to less than 40 percent field goal shooting, keeping four of those teams to 55 points or less. In the team's first 10 games of the season, UNI had held just one foe to less than 40 percent shooting, and only one team to less than 55 points.

- UNI will host Wyoming next year as part of the first Missouri Valley-Mountain West Challenge. The Cowboys will come to the McLeod Center on Dec. 23, 2009. This is the first of a four-year agreement between the MVC and MWC to have their teams face each other.
