Culver pushes flood recovery plan

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Governor Chet Culver pushed the flood recovery plan outlined in his Condition of the State address in Cedar Rapids Thursday.

Governor Culver met with the public at the formerly flooded Cedar Rapids Public Works Building. In his Condition of the State Address, Culver proposed a $700 million inititive to create jobs and address the state's infrasructure needs, as well as a $43 million disaster recovery package. Culver says the time to act is now.

"There's also a sense of urgencey here, where we can't wait. We're in a great posiition to come up with a practical solution that will help us invest in our infrastructure, create jobs, and rebuild a better, stronger, safer state," he told the crowd.

Culver plans to pay for the package by borrowing money using the state's excellent credit rating.
