Autopsy: Dubuque soldier shot in head

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- An autopsy report says a North Carolina Army nurse died from a gunshot wound to the head, and that her body had been dismembered.

The report released Thursday also shows 24-year-old 2nd Lt. Holley Wimunc had been burned, then wrapped in an air mattress.

Her estranged husband, Marine Cpl. John Wimunc, has been charged with first degree murder, arson and conspiracy in her death. A fellow Marine, Lance Cpl. Kyle Alden, is charged as an accessory. Both are scheduled to appear in Cumberland County court Jan. 27.

Division of Forest Resources personnel found Holley Wimunc's remains July 13 when they responded to a fire in a wooded area near Camp Lejeune. Her apartment in Fayetteville was found burned three days earlier.

The Dubuque, Iowa, native was a maternity ward nurse at Fort Bragg.
