Community Foundation announces $240,000 in grants

WATERLOO (KWWL) - The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa announced today they're awarding $243,409 in grants to 20 black Hawk County non-profit organizations.

Among the awards was a $20,000 grant to the YWCA of Black Hawk County for its childcare programs.  In 2008, 203 children enrolled in these programs and received financial assistance from the YWCA. 

Allen College of Nursing also received a grant for its innovative Allen community Engagement-Salvation Army Partnership (ACE-SAP) program.  The ACE-SAP Clinic opened last October.  It's the only free health assessment clinic in Black Hawk County that focuses on preventative care for low-income residents.

In addition to the YWCA and ACE-SAP, the following is a list of Black Hawk County groups that received a Fall 2008 grant award from the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa:

Arts & Culture: Hawkeye Community College; Metropolitan Chorale.

Community Affairs & Development: Cedar Bend Humane Society; Waterloo Industrial Development Association.

Education: Consumer Credit Counseling Service of NE; Iowa Jobs for America's Graduates; Covenant Medical Center-RSVP; West High School.

Health: Communities in Schools; Allen College of Nursing.

Historic Preservation: Grout Museum District.

Human Services: ARC of Cedar Valley; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Family and Children's Council of Black Hawk County; Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois; La Porte City Crosslines Food Closet ; Northeast Iowa Food Bank; Seeds of Hope; Variety-The Children's Charity; YWCA of Black Hawk County.
