Much of central and northeast Iowa is seeing significant snowfall, with near record low temperatures creeping into the state in the days ahead.

Meteorologist Miles Schumacher with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, said central and northeastern Iowa was looking at about three to six inches of snowfall on Tuesday night.

He says the storm will offer slightly more snow than typical, but more serious danger comes tomorrow when temperatures across the state are expected to dip well below zero.

Schumacher says parts of the state will see temperatures with wind chill dipping anywhere from minus 25 to minus 40 degrees below zero.

He says citizens need to prepare, and bring extra warm clothing, particularly if they are traveling.
