Annual Martin Luther King, Jr, Banquet

Posted:

Had he lived, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 80 on January 15. Americans observe the birthday of the slain civil rights next Monday, January 19. Iowans, too, will pay tribute to Dr. King with a host of Cedar Valley events, including the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. banquet and awards ceremony this Sunday night, January 18, at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in downtown Waterloo.

The public is invited to the 5:00 PM event, with the banquet theme this year, ‘Hope is a Dream, as the Soul Awakes.'  To reserve tickets, call LaTanya Graves at 319-296-4440, Ext. 3. Social hour begins at 5:00, followed by the dinner at 5:30. Deadline for reservations in Wednesday, January 14.

In addition, Martin Luther King workshops will be held Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, 426 Sumner Street, starting at 10:00 AM. Area residents are invited to these MLK workshops. For additional information contact Warren Wortham, Manager of the Martin Luther King Center of Hawkeye Community College at 319-296-4440.
