Local leaders lobby for more federal flood recovery money

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids City Council Members left Iowa Tuesday for Washington D.C. to lobby for more federal money to help with flood recovery in the city.

Justin Shields, Monica Vernon and Jerry McGrane will meet with staff members of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Wednesday.

During these meetings, Shields, Vernon and McGrane will explain the 2008 flood devastation and will outline the ongoing flood recovery needs for the community. They will also request more equitable funding formulas for the allocation of federal funds, as well as seek additional sources for federal financial support.

These City Council members were accompanied by Linn County Supervisor Linda Langston and other community leaders.
