Lindale School Cents Awards set for Saturday

Posted:

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Only one school will win the top prize, but fifteen area schools will be winners at the annual Lindale Mall School Cents awards program.

The 11th annual awards program will be held this Saturday, January 17, 11:30 AM, at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids. The awards program was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed by bad weather.

The annual event will present $ 20,000 to Eastern Iowa Schools for their participation in the School Cents Program, in which students vote for their favorite school through their Lindale receipts and take part in community service projects. This year, the community service projects included a Book Drive, a Special Needs Trick or Treat and a Sock Drive to benefit the Salvation Army.

In addition to the community service projects, the School Cents Program has handed out some $ 275,000 in cash prizes to Eastern Iowa Schools over the past eleven years. The School Cents awards ceremony begins at 11:30 this Saturday morning, January 17, at Lindale Mall. The event is free and open to the public.

A gloomy and rainy afternoon didn't stop people from making it out early to the campgrounds Friday.
