Water Back On In Dunkerton: Boil Advisory In Effect

The Dunkerton water system has been reparied and is once again operating, but a boil water advisory remains in effect/ The water system had been shut off to make repairs to a broken water main. Dunkerton residents are being advised to boil their drinking water for 3 minutes until further notice, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR issued the boil advisory Monday, after City officials could not isolate a broken water main, which serves the Dunkerton School. Water to the entire City of Dunkerton was shut off, while crews worked to make repairs. That shutoff has caused the Dunkerton drinking water system to lose pressure, creating the potential for bacterial contamination. The worsening winter weather conditions also hampered the repair process. The DNR says it will not lift the boil advisory until all samples have tested negative for any presence of bacteria. The City hopes to have those test results back by Wednesday.
