Winter weather rolls in Today

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- An Alberta Clipper will race through the Midwest on Monday. This will bring two to four inches of new snowfall to the state.

The backside of the system will be the real troublemaker with winds as they pick up from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph with gusts possible to 50 mph at times. This will create blowing and drifting snow and reduce visibilities to 1/4 mile at times.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for portions of North Central Iowa from 9 AM through 3 PM on Monday.

A BLIZZARD WATCH is in effect for the western portion of the viewing area (beginning at noon Monday).

A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect for East Central Iowa from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning.

Another system will move through Tuesday night through Wednesday.  This system is only expected to produce light snow.

Arctic air will settle over us for the end of the week and drop overnight lows to near 20 below zero by Friday morning before we have a slight warming trend for the weekend.
