Dubuque Ice Fest kicks off with games, demonstrations

Dubuque (KWWL) -- Dubuque's annual Ice Fest kicked off this very snowy weekend at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium.

The three-week long event features games for kids -- like ice bowling and croquet, and several demonstrations including ice harvesting in the Mississippi River.

A local ice sculptor is working on several projects including a tropical beach scene.

"It actually gets art into people's hands. They get to see what they can do in the wintertime, both not only with ice sculpting, but also snow and some of the other activities you can enjoy in your own backyard," ice sculptor John White said.

KWWL-TV is the media sponsor for Ice Fest, so White made a Channel 7 ice sculpture that sits out front.

KWWL Meteorologist Jeff Kennedy will do a presentation at Ice Fest on Sunday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m.
