Good snow for snowshoeing

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Although Saturday's snowfall probably wasn't appreciated by drivers, the extra inches made it a good day to go snowshoeing.

The Hartman Reserve Nature Center had their "Snowflakes and Snowshoes" program Saturday.  Girl Scouts and a few adults, just looking for a good time, strapped on rented snowshoes and took to the trials after a short lesson.

"Especially when you have a lot of deep snow, it's fun to get out there.  It actually shows you how the snow shoe actually works and distributes your weight over larger areas so you don't sink in as far." said Hartman Reserve Program Director Jim Weimer.

"This is a great place to see winter wildlife such as whitetail deer, wood peckers and songbirds," said Jim Weimer.

The event will repeat the next two Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until Noon.  Hartman Reserve Nature Center rents snow shoes most days of the week.  Call (319) 277-2187 or visit to sign up.
