Cedar Rapids under Snow Emergency until 7 p.m.

CEDAR RAPIDS (NEWS RELEASE) -- The City of Cedar Rapids has received over 4 inches of snow or ice in the last day. A snow emergency is in effect from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday January 10, 2009. Snow routes are in effect for this time period. Residents are requested to move cars off streets. If this is not possible, they are requested to park on the even side of the street to provide increased effectiveness and efficiency. Crews will not plow a road if it is not safe because of parked cars. Crews have worked through the night to work on the main roads. As the storm is ending, additional crews are being called to perform a city wide plow today.

The snow plows are over 50,000 pounds and spread salt and sand. Maintain a safe distance back from snow plows by at least 50 feet. As road speeds increase, the distance should also increase. Drivers need to give room to the plows for safe operations.
