New Pet Licensing For Dubuque

Pet owners in Dubuque will notice a change in the way they license their pets.  Dubuque has changed its annual pet licensing process. The Dubuque City Clerk's office used to handle all pet licensing within the city, but those duties have been switched to PetData, Inc, a company which specializes in the pet licensing process.  The City says the change is being made because of an increasing number of pet licenses being issued each year, and what it calls inefficiences in the current system.  The new process, the city believes, will be more consumer-friendly.

The Dubuque City Health Services Department says The PetData system allows for year-round license sales.  The previous process used three-month time periods; January-March for dogs and July-September for cats. Under the new licensing system, Dubuque pet owners will receive a mailed invoice from PetData telling them when their pet's license is coming up for renewal. Owners will then have one month to purchase the new license. Payment should be sent to PetData right away, and PetData will mail the new license tags to owners.  If the new license is not purchased by the end of the one-month grace period, the license will be considered expired and delinquent.

The Health Services Department says the new pet licensing process will save the City of Dubuque $ 12,882 a year, because a part-time licensing employee will not have to be hired. The new licensing system will begin with Dubuque dog owners this month, and cat owners will receive their licensing information in coming months.

Annual licensing fees vary in Dubuque. The annual fee for a spayed or neutered dog or cat is $ 12.00. The fee for a  non-spayed or non-neutered dog or cat is $ 30.00. The delinquent fee for dogs and cats is $ 10.00. Licenses can be purchased online. Pet owners with new dogs and cats can apply for a license online at:
