Dubuque bald eagle watch January 17th


DUBUQUE - The Dubuque Bald Eagle Watch will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Grand River Center in the Port of Dubuque from 9am - 4:30pm. 

The public is invited to this free family event which celebrates the American Bald Eagle.  Highlights include live bird programs and children's activities. Vendors will have wildlife art, books, nature items and food available for purchase. Exhibitors will share information about opportunities to experience nature in the tri-state area.

The event features the following programming and activities:

Raptor Awareness

9:30 am, 12:15 pm and 3:00 pm

Presented by the World Bird Sanctuary of St. Louis, MO.

See LIVE birds of prey including falcons, hawks, owls, and vultures. Sit back and get a close-up as some birds soar right over your head! The highlight of the program will be a Bald Eagle.

Wildlife Photography

Presented by Stan Bousson a Wildlife Photographer

A digital slide presentation of bald eagles nesting and hunting plus other wildlife from around the U.S. Stan will share stories about the pictures and what it took to get them.

International Crane Foundation

1:45 pm

Presented by the International Crane Foundation of Baraboo, WI.

Discover the 15 species of cranes found around the world and what is taking place to save them from extinction, including the native Sandhill and Whooping Cranes.

Children's Activities

9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Nature related activities for children of all ages will be provided by: E.B. Lyons Nature Center, Swiss Valley Nature Center, Hurstville Interpretive Center, National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, Upper Catfish Creek Watershed Coalition and the Iowa DNR Fisheries.

Exhibitors and Vendors

9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Natural resource agencies and organizations will be there with educational displays and information. There will also be vendors selling nature related items and food.

Trolley - Live Eagle Watching

9:00 am -3:30 pm

Free trolley rides will be available every 30 min. and will circulate from the Grand River Center to the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium to Lock & Dam #11 for LIVE eagle viewing. Trolley sponsored by the Diamond Jo Casino.
