IRS changes ease taxpayer headaches

WATERLOO (KWWL) - If you're behind on your taxes, the IRS has a new plan to help you get caught up.
One new initiative helps those whose homes have lost value, negotiate reducing their tax debts, if they can convince the i-r-s they've exhausted financial resources.

The IRS will also work with taxpayers who miss an installment if they have a good record of paying.
The new plan could also postpone some collection actions against those having a tough time.

Meanwhile, social security officials have rolled out a new website for to help you apply for benefits.
The online process will allow people to fill out application forms in 15 minutes or less.
That's important because social security officials soon expect ten thousand people to apply for benefits a day for the next 20 years... and they say that's more than the system can handle.

More than 80 million baby boomers will be eligible for social security.
