Violent Crime Down, Burglaries Up in Cedar Rapids

The FBI's 2008 preliminary Uniform Crime Report (URC) for Cedar Rapids shows burglaries up by 15-percent and assaults down 13-percent during the first six months of 2008. The FBI collects these kinds of crime statistics every year, and these new Cedar Rapids crime numbers are part of the FBI preliminary 2008 numbers.  The report shows the total number of arrests down 5.8- percent, and sex crimes were down more than 7-percent. Overall, the FBI stats report violent crime, including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault down 10-percent. Property Crime, including burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle and arson went up 6-percent. The numbers are all broken down by Neighborhood Association and then for the entire city. The numbers are not official until they are published in October of 2009.
