Small car dealers working through tough economy

NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) -- Small car dealerships are having more trouble making ends meet than their larger counter-parts.

Steve Cooley owns Cooley Auto Sales in North Liberty. He says prices this year are about 20 percent lower than last year.

Even though a tough economy means pinching pennies, Cooley says the current big-dealer incentives may be too good to pass up.

"It's a great time to buy a car," said Cooley.  "The values are as good this time of year as I've seen them in a really long time."

But while selling cars cheap is good for consumers, it can be bad for dealers.  Because of low prices, Cooley had a rough November, but says December was successful and January is going well so far.
