Linn County to hold informational meeting on voluntary buyout

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - (KWWL) - Linn County Planning and Development will hold an informational meeting on Thursday, January 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Marion City Hall to discuss the Hazard Mitigation Grant Voluntary Property Acquisition (Buyout) Project for residents of unincorporated Linn County who sustained flood damage.

Staff from the Planning & Development Department and the Iowa Homeland Security Emergency Management Division will provide an update on the project and will provide information on Duplication of Benefits, Replacement Housing Assistance for property owners, Uniform Relocation Assistance for tenants (if applicable), and assistance for mobile home owners and tenants (if applicable).

Residents are urged to attend the meeting if they have an interest in participating in the buyout program. This will be the final opportunity for owners of rural (unincorporated) property to sign up for the program. The deadline for the County to submit its application for the program to FEMA is January 29, 2009. The County cannot add additional properties to the project once the application has been submitted to the State.
