CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Place standings for the Final Award Prize Ceremony have been determined in the Lindale Mall School Cents school outreach program and will be announced on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11:30 am at Lindale Mall. More than $20,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the fifteen participating high schools at this ceremony. Ron Steele and Katheryn Foxx, representing media sponsors KWWL and Mix 96.5 will assist in the awards ceremony. Prizes are based upon points accumulated throughout the program that ran Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2008.
School Cents is a program designed to assist area schools with funding for their programs in need. The program, developed by Lindale Mall, is intended to build community-wide support and recognition for those schools involved. This was the eleventh year for the School Cents program, and through this program alone, Lindale Mall has awarded over $275,000 to area schools.
Through the program, participating schools competed to accumulate points toward $25,000 in prize money. Points were accumulated when customers turned in their mall receipts thereby "voting" for their favorite participating school. Each dollar spent at Lindale Mall equaled points for the chosen school. Receipts were collected in a redemption box in center court at Lindale Mall and at the Collins Road Hy-Vee. Those who did not wish to give up receipts could get them validated at the mall's Receipt Center.
In addition to the Final Award Ceremony, a Mid-Prize Event was held on Nov. 22nd where $5,000 in cash prizes were given away, again based on point standings in the program.
"This is our eleventh year sponsoring the School Cents community outreach program. We are thrilled to be assisting our area schools by giving back to the community that has supported Lindale Mall for the past forty-eight years. We look forward to the growth potential this program brings," says Lisa Rowe, Senior Marketing Manager.
Participating schools include: Alburnett HS, Benton HS, Center Point-Urbana HS, Central City HS, East Buchanan HS, Kennedy HS, Marion HS, Metro HS, North-Linn HS, Olin HS, Solon HS, Springville HS, Cedar Rapids Washington HS, Vinton-Shellsburg High School and Xavier HS.
Media sponsors of the School Cents program are KWWL TV, Mix 96.5 and The Cedar Rapids Gazette.
