Dubuque to host Mentoring Awareness Day

by Danielle Wagner

DUBUQUE (KWWL) More than 500 children in Dubuque County are in need of a mentor. These children come from all walks of life and have needs unique to each one of them.

The Dubuque Mentoring Partnership (DMP) is a local alliance dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth, age 5-17, through quality mentoring partnerships. DMP's goal is to link all at-risk children in Dubuque County with an adult mentor.

The DMP is planning a Mentoring Awareness Day on Monday, January 19, 2009.

There will be 3 sessions throughout the day with each session offering a call to action, demonstration of local need, and testimony of the benefits of mentoring from mentors and mentees.

These events will take place at the Grand River Center (upstairs conference room). The sessions will be offered at 9:30-11AM, Noon-1:30PM (Lunch will be provided in this session - please RSVP at 583-7357 Ext. 299 by 1/12/09) and 3:30-5:00PM.

AmeriCorps Members will provide Child Care and children's activities at each session. Please join us for one of these three sessions to learn more about the many opportunities that are available in Dubuque County to make a difference in the life of a child.

These events are made possible by a grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation.
