St. Luke's opens new Emergency Department

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- St. Luke's Hospital has opened its newly renovated and expanded Emergency Department.  The expansion adds more than 13,000 square feet and ten patient rooms.

St. Luke's cares for more than 52,000 patients each year, and the old Emergency Department was not able to handle the traffic.  It was built in 1972.

The new Emergency Department includes in ambulance bay, treatment room, decontamination rooms and an EMS/public safety workspace.

The completion of the St. Luke's Emergency Department is the last in a three-year multi-phase modernization project at the hospital, which also included a new West Entrance, renovated operating rooms, Pharmacy, Intensive Care Unit and a new Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation unit.
