Inmates help with projects in jail and community

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The Black Hawk county jail is using inmates to help keep their walks clear -- among other things like laundry, cleaning and community improvement projects.

Sheriff Tony Thompson says the benefit for the inmates is that they are credited $56 a day to put toward room and board expenses that they're charged during their incarceration.

To participate, inmates must already be sentenced and volunteer for the extra work.
