Hawkeye football team to arrive back in Iowa Friday afternoon

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The Iowa Hawkeye football team will be welcomed back by fans when they arrive from Florida at the Eastern Iowa Airport.

The team is set to land at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Iowa won six of its final seven games including a landmark victory over Penn State and finished 9-4, their best record since 2004. The Hawkeyes could also be ranked in next week's Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time since 2006.

The 2008 season will be remembered most for running back Shonn Greene. Iowa's defense was solid all year, and the offense improved considerably from 2007.

The Hawkeyes will lose a number of key players next season, including Greene, Mitch King, Matt Kroul, Seth Olsen and Ron Bruggeman. But Iowa is deep at nearly every position and should enter next season as serious contenders for the Big Ten title.
