Hawkeye fans return from Tampa with shorts, smiles

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - After New Year's Eve and a New Year's Day win, Hawkeye fans have had plenty of reasons to celebrate this week. For the most part they're glad to have their feet planted firmly back on Iowa soil.

Bags in hand, and many still wearing their black and gold, some of the first bowl-goers stepped off the plane. Some were still dressed for warmer climates, like Mike Peffer, who was dreading the Iowa air.

"I don't know what it's like outside, but I'm still wearing sandals and shorts, so hopefully it's not too bad outside," said Peffer.

He says Tampa, as well as the game itself, were both awesome.

"I think it was just a solid win all-around. We never came from behind, and the Gamecocks didn't seem like they came to play."

Memories of the game and his Hawkeye spirit will be enough to keep President of the UI Alumni Association Vince Nelson warm.

"It was a great day for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and a great day for the University of Iowa."

He told us the university was well-represented. "It seemed to me that in the stadium, we were certainly in the majority of people who had tickets."

Max Molleston of Coralville says the final score was no suprise to him. "I thought Iowa would win it, and they did. So, it was a good four days."
